One long movie night/weekend Pt. I

I just came back from another private movie night, starting from Saturday evening and ending Sunday evening (so more or less 24-hours-watching-without-sleeping). Around 13 movies. I also got myself a new camcorder and made a video of a short commentary on these films (like one sentence for each short review), but as my internet connection pretty much sucks, I’ll just write those lines down here and try to upload the video tomorrow. Another reason for the video is of course to test how the rather cheap cam (Rollei SD-50 for 130 Euros) works in different environments. I also recorded some outside scenes (as it was raining like hell… talking about “Heavy Rain” a day before…).

Some more info on the movies and longer reviews coming soon (maybe tomorrow), so here’s the short version:

Kick Ass: kicks ass with a message

Rogue: another violent croco romp in the Australian outbacks

Primeval: sets new gore and splatter standards in the animal horror genre (coming from Africa!)

Dead Space: fun gory, scary ride with some bad animation and voice acting

Paranormal Activity: achieves what R.E.C. desperately tried to do, i.e. scaring the shit out of people

Last House On The Left (2009): an uncomfortable but thrilling horror-thriller which is way better than the original

Hush: little suspense horror thriller on the British motorways at night

Dead End: bizarre mixture of weird characters, situations and story

Familie mit dem umgekehrten Düsenantrieb (=Back-Firing Family): an even more bizare mixture of weird characters, situation and story, but with the special Asian extreme cinema flavor

Evil: amateur horror zombie flick which suffered from its very bad music and some inconsistent uses of drama and comedy, still watchable with some fun gore scenes

Keiler (=Chow): not as good as “The Host”, but still a “swinish enjoyment”, even though it’s a tad bit too long for an animal horror movie

Ip Man: pure Hong Kong action cinema with bonebreaking fight scenes and amazing music score

Dead or Alive: nonsense, but one of the most entertaining ones (much better than the Mortal Kombat or other fighting games movie adaptations), plus some hot chicks kicking some ass (which brings us to a good closing feature)

Tetsuo 2: only 20 minutes were enough to find out it wasn’t really appealing or fun to watch at all (so it doesn’t really count)

About nufafitc

Being an avid gamer, cinemaniac, and bookworm in addition to other things the internet and new media present, I'm also very much into DIY music, rock and pop in particular. Writing short or longer pieces about anything that interests me has always made me happy. As both an editor for German website "Adventure-Treff" and UK website "Future Sack", I like to write reviews and news about recent developments in the movies, games and book industry.
