After the reviewed Pokémon Shuffle broke into free-to-play water to varying success, is Nintendo’s new Pokémon Rumble World an improvement?
The Pokémon Rumble series has already graced the Wii U, but it now returns as a free download title on Nintendo’s eShop for its 3D handheld system. The number of little critters to catch is impressive with 719 toy Pokémon. Fierce battles with Mega Evolutions and Primal Reversion tactics ensue, while the inclusion of Mii characters needs some getting used to.
Graphics are colorful and music tensely cheerful, as you might expect from such a title, although the biggest question is how the free-to-play model works. Like Pokémon Shuffle, one can either earn diamonds to help progress in the game via additional items, or one can buy them with real money. So it remains to be seen how difficult levels and battles become before one is forced to pay cash. It also says “free to start” which is hopefully not an indication of “forced to stop” later on.
However, if you’re in for some fast-paced action, then you can try out the game on the eShop for free.
