There are many creature features involving sharks, and with The Asylum’s Sharknado series, trash has never been the same. However, the Kickstarter project Sky Sharks could just be another evolution of the genre, for the worst or the best.
Germany isn’t particularly loved for its movies, especially when it comes to the horror genre, with directors often taken themselves too seriously or just ripping off old US ideas. But Marc Fehse’s movie looks as awesome as it sounds. There are not only flying sharks attacking a plane, they’re actually ridden by Nazi zombies. If this isn’t crazy enough, add in the Dead Flesh Four, a group of re-animated US soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war and who now have to save the passengers from the undead threat.
Despite some ropey-looking CGI (which still looks better than what Asylum often comes up with), the gory effects are pretty impressive, considering the budget, while there are also a few well-known actors who make this more than just an amateur effort. Kickstarter funding was successfully involved with 2017 as a targeted release date. It will take some time, but maybe we can finally have a German trash movie outside of lame genre flicks.
