The first DLC Hearts of Stone for CD Projekt RED‘s acclaimed RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt shows that expansion packs can be more than graphical make-ups or dispensable features.
I’m not really up to date with what’s happening in the The Witcher universe (which reminds me to read the books and comics as well), and it might take a while until I’ll be able to play the third installment. But what the release trailer shows looks extremely promising with new characters, quests, and maps, adding up to 10 hours playtime.
Disillusioned by so many cheap cash-ins for games with missing characters or story segments, Hearts of Stone seems to be an exciting, epic add-on with the story of the Merchant of Mirrors who’s cursed with the power of immortality complementing Geralt of Rivia’s own plight. Graphically, this looks amazing, while the art direction is also much better than the typically rushed add-ons of other games. Knowing CD Projekt RED’s attention to detail and their fair treatment of customers/fans, this comes highly recommended, although there’s still another expansion coming. For those who can wait, an Enhanced Edition with all content included might also be an option when/if it is released.
