Card games have been around for ages, not only with the behemoth Pokémon, but what happens if you make an adventure game out of it with quirky characters, as in the GOG release of Ludosity‘s Card City Nights?
This isn’t really a point-and-click adventure game with puzzles to solve, but the way how one interacts with weird people or creatures in the vibrant night life of Card City makes it feel like one. Of course the main goal is what all (battle) card games are about: building one’s deck with offensive and defensive cards, while collecting the opponent’s stack.
The game seems to be full of quirky characters and just like Pokémon there’s also a story behind it all, even if it’s a rather simple one: winning all 8 Legendary Cards and participate in a big competition. The characters look fun, the world looks fun, the writing is also quite witty, and the gameplay seems to accommodate new players as well. Considering that Magic the Gathering is quite hardcore and even Pokémon can be tricky, this could just be a great entry point for those wondering what it’s all about.
Card City Nights was already released in 2014 on Steam and mobile platforms, but it’s now available DRM-free on GOG with a launch discount that lasts until Tuesday, November 24 1:59 PM GMT.
