What would happen if one crosses turn-based strategy gameplay with a wild west theme? CreativeForge Games has the answer with Hard West.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Early Access and delays, the game is finally here, and it seems to be an interesting mix of isometric strategy in the vein of X-Com and a gore zombie game with light RPG mechanics. Controlling a squad of up to 4 characters with supernatural powers and more traditional guns opens up all kinds of different play styles, while the story about one man pursuing those who betrayed him fits the general tone of epic wild west movies perfectly.
What’s also great about the game is not only Western and horror influences, but also how certain decisions change the course of events. It might not be a behemoth in terms of graphics, but it still looks pretty with a comic book-like appearance and offers some decent voice acting and nice music. If this isn’t enough to support a genre that lacks wild west ideas (I only remember Desperados, but that one was real-time), then make sure to get the Digital Collector’s Edition which features an artbook, comic book, and soundtrack. There’s also a launch discount that lasts until Wednesday, November 25, 4:59 PM GMT.
