Even if the weather was rather stormy, rainy and a weird mixture of summer and autumn last week, the temperature has fallen now, announcing winter time. After all, in about a month, there’s Christmas time. But before that, horror movie Krampus will be released.
Michael Dougherty is best known for his excellent Trick ‘r Treat which was the best example how to make seasonal traditions relevant again, with a good mix of horror and comedy. Krampus seems to continue this idea by having the titular demon ruining Christmas for those who’re not into the spirit yet.
Unlike Trick ‘r Treat, it’s not an episodic movie, but focuses on a family on Christmas Eve whose members have a hard enough time to survive all their disputes. So it’s again a perfect example of satirizing the family get togethers, but holding true to age old rituals, i.e. having Krampus punish those who don’t believe in Christmas anymore.
From the first looks of it, the movie seems to be dark and creepy (even with a PG-13 rating), but also filled with humor. It remains to be seen if it all has a happy ending with the family members unite to fight the evil. This could very well be another movie one can add to the list of must-see-during-Christmas-time flicks. It will be released on 4 December 2015 in the US, but some countries (like France or Germany) will be able to watch it sooner, just right on time with St. Nicholas Day.
