Christmas time does not only mean horror movies like Krampus or A Christmas Horror Story, but also comedy movies like Jonathan Levine’s The Night Before that brings its own sense of weirdness.
Being made by “the guys who brought you Neighbors, This Is The End, and ALMOST The Interview“, expectations for witty dialogue and touching scenes with realistic characters or a plot that makes sense should be set pretty low from the get go. While I enjoyed Neighbors very much, the others contained a bit too much gross out humor, even for Seth Rogen standards. The trailer looks to first confirm these fears, but it soon becomes clear that this could actually be pretty great.
The idea of three friends looking for the best Christmas party on Christmas Eve might be simple, but with a name like Nutcracka Ball and more politically incorrect and absurd situations, this could turn out to be the definitive chaotic Christmas comedy, probably with lots of toilet humor and stoner jokes, which is to be expected. It has already been out in cinemas for a few days, so if you get the chance and see a different version of how to spend Christmas, this could be it, although it might not be as over-the-top weird and funny as A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.
