The The Walking Dead series is not finished yet in Telltale Games‘ episodic gaming format, as the upcoming release of The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Games Series proves.
As if Telltale Games isn’t busy enough to conclude Minecraft: Story Mode, the company recently announced a three-part spin-off about Michonne, one of the survivors in Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, telling her story during the time between issues #126 and #139. For those who don’t know her or aren’t familiar with the series, this might be quite difficult to get into at first, especially with her troubled past of loss and revenge which has more to do with humans than zombies. But knowing Telltale Games, they will surely try to make it as accessible as possible for newcomers.
What this announcement proves and means is that the company tries out different formats. Some might shout out “cash-ins” or “milking the money cow”. But to be honest, this concept of doing a mini-series and telling stories about specific characters isn’t new, especially in the comic book world. It might actually lead to some more interesting background and crossover stories, although it remains to be seen how they will be connected and influence each other. Probably not much if one doesn’t want to buy the one, but the other.
The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Games Series will premiere in February 2016 and will be available on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS, Android and of course PC.
