After covering all the movie reviews and trailers of 2015, it’s only logical to discuss what fans made of certain franchises and what crazy ideas some people put into their videos. Now if you think this list is a cheap way of writing about some things twice, you’re only partly right. For once, it certainly saves me some time to prepare the very big article about games in 2015 (which might even end up in different parts), but it also helps to find out if one can’t bring together some articles under one category, therefore making navigation of the blog and coherence of hypertexts easier to grasp.
Lego is of course the most obvious choice if one wants to recreate famous movie scenes, as the Lego Matrix lobby scene video showed. If this requires some getting used to, then the look of the “Star Wars: TIE Fighter” anime video was even more difficult to get one’s head around, although it perfectly captured the essence of epic space fights. The biggest surprise was actually the return of a children’s series, but done with a very violent style in the Power/Rangers fan film.
Taking well-known popular culture and twisting it in a fun way seemed to be very en vogue, as seen in Pokémon Battle: Rise of Pekachu and Luigi Death Stare @ Anime Expo 2014. The former tried to tell some sort of story, while the latter was simply about people getting hit, although Luigi’s Death Store found in the Mario Kart series was quite a shocking realization that maybe Nintendo was a little bit nasty with its characters here. YouTube also spawned some other creative videos, one of them, the touching, funny and a bit sick AT-AT Day Afternoon, just on time with the new Star Wars movies. So was the Star Wars Disney: Let It Flow medley that gave a good, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny summary of George Lucas’ prequels.
If all this animated stuff wasn’t up your alley, then Rémi Gaillard’s “Tetris”, “Pac-Man”, “Mario Kart” + “Sonic” were the best showcase of what anarchy behavior could lead to, but with hilarious results.
There were certainly a lot more funny videos to share, but I only started writing about them in the last few months. Bringing them all together under the heading “Funny videos” would be unfair to the fan videos, so we’ll see what the new year brings, especially with so many Star Wars influences at the moment. Of course if you have any must-see videos you want me to cover or if there was one you really enjoyed, please let me know!
