The psychological horror and terror continues with Bloober Team‘s DLC Layers of Fear: Inheritance that tells the story of a mad painter’s daughter revisiting her home and past.
Writing from a child’s perspective is difficult and even more so in a game. Finding its voice and using the right first-person perspective is essential to make the player believe in the character and story, so it’s great to see that the DLC of this year’s imaginative exploration horror Layers of Fear seems to achieve this by being as creative with the toybox and pop-up-book-like environments as the storybook-like narrative.
While everything looks more out of a fairytale, the depiction of a big bad wolf chasing the little girl, appearing as an overgrown shadow, is enough to make most fainthearted people run. I haven’t played the original game yet, but this looks even more promising despite not explaining too much of what is going on in the painter’s house that twists its corridors and probably the player’s mind as well, as can be seen in the repressed memories of the child. Apparently it’s not a very long game, but with multiple endings based on specific decisions, it warrants more than another play.
The game is now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4 with the original 35% off until August 9, 4:59 PM UTC.
