Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear was a throwback to old RPG strategy games, and CreativeForge Games‘s DLC Scars of Freedom to last year’s Hard West adds a more unique twist to the turn-based RPG strategy genre.
Despite not having played the base game that is still on my wishlist to play/review, the add-on looks extremely promising, mainly because its emphasis is more on story. Being told from different perspectives of former slave and now resurrected Libertee and mad scientist Dr. Gorman who experimented with her, this sounds like a gruesome, dark gothic tale set in the Wild West, intriguing enough if it manages to make both sides interesting enough to play.
With 10 new playable characters, a new weapon and an updated character development system called Surgical Bodily Augmentation System, there’s quite a lot to like for a not so pricey DLC, although one shouldn’t expect the same long playtime as in the original. Still, what’s on display is bloody, violent fun with some nice visuals and voice acting that complements the difficult but motivating battle system.
