Despite trying to keep up with all the latest indie games, I have to confess that there are just too many and that some slip by unnoticed, as it happened with 2D-sidescroller Kingdom. Granted, the title doesn’t make it any easier to find, but having been a finalist in the IGN (Independent Games Festival) and the winner of the Indie Arena Booth 2015, it’s beyond me how this came to be.
Be it as it may, it just looks beautiful, especially with some very nice water and weather effects. Sure, the pixel art isn’t for everyone, but there’s a certain atmosphere that would be lost in common 3D graphics, while the soundtrack (that is also available on GOG and Steam) is awesome, too.
Now watching the trailer doesn’t show a lot of gameplay with just a knight (or queen) running around on various steeds or even bears, but there’s quite a lot to do with building, fighting and trading, while avoiding the wildlife, trying to survive all seasons with strange beasts and creatures. It’s also an expansion to the original, but made available for free to those who already bought it. Oh, and it has horses spilling gold coins out of their behinds, so what’s not to like?
