A lot has happened since I had a break from and a new beginning of writing, and while I’m not sure I can keep this daily blogging up on a regular basis, reflecting on monthly writing might help to keep things in order and perspective.
August was a very prolific month with 31 articles, something that stands in stark contrast to July with its 6. It’s actually interesting that the less time I had (due to job applications and having started my new English teacher job a week ago), the more motivated I became to write. There have been many game releases I missed the first time, so looking at the following list (that should additionally help when writing the yearly overview), it’s clear to see that gaming news was at the forefront of writing:
Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
The Banner Saga 2
Batman: The Telltale Series – Ep. 1: Realm of Shadows
Dreamfall Chapters – Book 5: REDUX
Hard West: Scars of Freedom
Kingdom: New Lands
Layers of Fear: Inheritance
Little King’s Story
Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars
No Man’s Sky
Stories: The Path of Destinies
This is the Police
GOG releases were the next logical step to catch up on all the new and old releases, partly exclusive and partly made DRM-free for the first time:
Disney’s “Aladdin”, “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King”
Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition
Sid Meier’s Pirates!
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
X-COM classic series
Of course there were some reviews, but not as many as the month before:
The reason for this was not only efficient time management with playing longer titles that will receive their respective reviews this month. There is always the problem of playing through all the games and then trying to put the experience into words and a final score, not to mention looking for screenshots and other media. I’ll try to get a review out every week, but sometimes it’s simply not possible, especially now with preparing for school teaching. Teasing about any particular reviews can of course result in me not being able to deliver on time, but let’s just say that I recently finished Oxenfree, Kathy Rain, and Deus Ex ;).
Speaking of games, I also attended this year’s Gamescom, but only on the final day in the public area. Despite not being able to go to press appointments in the business area, there were quite a few interesting talks to indie developers, so watch this writing space, as there might be some special feature coming up, hopefully this month.
I watched a lot of movies as well, but didn’t manage to write any reviews, as there was just too much input from the gaming side. However, I’ll try to make this month a bit more varied, so maybe cinema will find a renaissance here.
