The Wild West was tough, but becoming an oil tycoon in 19th century USA was even tougher, although the fun isn’t held back in Gamious‘ strategy sim Turmoil.
Building simulation games and titles that have economy as a theme aren’t always entertaining in their presentation, but this one seems to have a much more lighthearted approach. Leasing land and digging for oil with all kinds of upgrades of mining operations is one way to earn money, but bribing authorities is another. Going against competitors with the best prices or using natural gas to boost the oil price help to achieve the main goal of the game, i.e. becoming rich and powerful.
The rags-to-riches story might not be new and there are a few statistics to get through, but being able to meet the town’s characters in the saloon and make shady business deals sounds like a lot of fun. The graphics also have a nice art style to set it apart from the more serious tycoon games. The game also appears to be quite accessible for newcomers to the genre, so it might be worth a try for those who always wondered about these business games, but who always found them a bit dry or complicated.
There’s no better way to do this now, as there’s a 30% discount that will last until October 5, 9:59 AM UTC.
