Anime stories and gameplay aren’t for everyone, but Anima Project’s action-RPG Anima: Gate of Memories still shows a lot of ambition and creativity.
I’m not familiar with the Anima Beyond Fantasy RPG book series on which the developers have worked on for 10 years, and the plot about a girl and a demon inhabiting the same body, working for the society Nathaniel that protects humanity against darkness, and now looking for an artifact called The Byblos sounds as nonsensical as many Japanese stories. Voice acting also oozes melodrama, but if the epic music is anything to go by, this could still be a compelling experience nevertheless.
Gameplay also sounds quite interesting with switching between the two main characters and therefore being able to use different skills and weapons. Being an action-RPG, combat offers all kinds of combo systems, and while the graphics don’t look spectacular, the boss fights do. With quite a few interesting and beautiful vistas to visit, hopefully memorable characters to meet and quests to complete, this should be worth any JRPG or action-RPG fan’s time.
The game is now available on PC with a 20% discount that will last until October 18, 2:59 PM UTC. Console versions are also ready to download.
