Platformers don’t have to be colorful, as they can also be quite dark, depressing, and wonderfully surreal like the DRM-free release of Playdead‘s LIMBO.
It’s amazing to think that 4 years have passed since I reviewed LIMBO and still remember it fondly as having a lasting impression on me. The game about a boy who has to go through a world of industrialized darkness to find either hope or death was already difficult to stomach with its creepy atmosphere. The platformer elements could be a bit unfair at times, but it remains an unforgettable experience with some amazing sound design. If you want to know more about it, please read the in-depth review, otherwise make sure you’ll get the GOG version.
