It’s been a while since this blog has been updated due to job life, but what better way to start the new year than with free game Constructor thanks to GOG?
System 3 Software‘s Constructor is a (surprise!) construction building simulation that plays like a mix of Sim City, but with a darker Dungeon Keeper-like twist, i.e. one has to (micro) manage resources and workers in order to control the city with all kinds of buildings while trying to sabotage the competitors’ endeavors by getting rid of their workers, stealing their tools, destroying their buildings with the help of psychopaths or bribing city officials.
The mix of building sim and RTS doesn’t look and sound very fresh today with its low-res graphics and the lack of in-game music (except for some themes on certain screens) being certainly distracting, but this is to be expected from a game from 1997. However, the cartoon visuals and some fun (if rather repetitive) sound effects make it different from other more serious strategy games that deal with city construction and keeping workers, inhabitants and one’s own purse happy.
The game is now (again) available on GOG and to celebrate the return, it’s free to download, but only today until 2:00 PM UTC. So get it before the offer expires in a few hours! For those interested, the developers are also hard at work on the HD version due for release this year.
