4 years ago puzzle-platformer Teslagrad became an indie hit, and now with the release of Rain Games‘ 3D action-adventure World to the West, it seems that the story hasn’t ended yet.
I have to admit that despite having heard only good things about Teslagrad, I haven’t come around playing it, even though it looks absolutely lovely, something that is also true for this title. It doesn’t only look great, but the music is amazing as well. In addition, the idea of using European comics as an influence seems to have brought a unique twist to a not-so-original-sounding premise of a group of heroes trying to deal with an ancient and dark prophecy.
Set in the steampunk-inspired world of Teslagrad, one will meet familiar faces, although it shouldn’t be too difficult for people who don’t know the original platformer to find their way around. Playing as Lumina the Teslamancer, Knaus the orphan, Miss Teri the mind bender, and Lord Clonington, the strongman, doesn’t only offer different backgrounds, but also abilities and therefore play styles. A mix of hack-and-slashing and less violent methods sets it apart from many games of this ilk, while the world is populated with humorous moments and memorable locales.
The game is now available on PC (with the GOG version including the sublime soundtrack for free), but console versions for PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U are confirmed as well.
