GOG release: “Gremlins, Inc.”

Boardgames are a great way to be social with other people, but the digital versions are fun as well, as the GOG release of Alexey Bokulev’s fantasy strategy business simulation Gremlins, Inc. proves.

I already wrote about the “Eador: Genesis” giveaway and “Eador” series sale which came with the addition of a new game to the DRM-free library. This is Gremlins, Inc. which was released last year on Steam, but is now available with all kinds of goodies on GOG.

Generally, the game is about accumulating money, political power and prestige in turn-based rounds with the help of cards. Unlike free-to-play games, one doesn’t need to buy additional decks (even if there are cosmetic DLCs), as each player has the same, or rather whatever the game hands out to them. It’s a bit like Monopoly, but in a steampunk fantasy world. Despite being able to play in single-player, like most boardgames, having more people adds to the fun and strategic elements. Managing a whole town of Gremlins, trying to get out of jail, doing business with but also dealing damage to other players is the name of the game, and it looks quite addictive with lovely hand-drawn graphics.

In addition to the main game, a digital artbook, the soundtrack, or the Uninvited Guests, Astral Gamblers, and Automated Competitors DLCs can be bought separately. Currently there’s a 50 % discount that will last until May 18, 13:00 PM UTC. It’s also interesting to note that the GOG version features Galaxy/Steam crossplay, so it’s possible to play with other platform gamers, too.
