It looks like a multiplayer experience, but the game is single-player only, although it might feel like a MMORPG. Taking place in the fictional land of Calradia, the player’s task is to rise from lonely adventurer to king by conquering castles, taxing villagers, building an army, and gainign experience. So it’s a mix of RPG action complete with swords and bows, and strategy, i.e. making sure that one’s castles and lands are protected before and after battles, too. Help comes in various forms, e.g. from lords, commoners, and heroes who have their own personalities, which could also lead to different allegiances.
The game’s graphics might be dated, but the game itself has received quite a lot of positive recognition over the years, not least in the modding community and competitive gaming scene. One can actually watch people compete today (Saturday, May 20th 2017) on the developer’s own official Twitch channel. Afterwards it’s possible that viewers vote for the Best Skills Award – Audience Choice and therefore get the chance to win 5 Mount & Blade hoodies and 10 GOG copies of Mount & Blade: Warband.
So be quick, as Mount & Blade is only available for free until May 21, 1 PM UTC. There’s also a sale of the whole series that will last until May 21, 10 PM UTC:
