Early access/In development games take their time to finally be ready to play, and Juggernaut Games‘ spacepunk dungeon crawler StarCrawlers is one of them.
Despite having grown up with PC gaming in the early 90ies, games like Dungeon Master passed me by, although I loved the Might & Magic series, even if I never completed them. This game takes the same turn-based first-person approach, only in a sci-fi setting and with robots replacing fantasy heroes. The story about adventuring renegades who do jobs for megacorporations involving espionage or plundering resources needs some getting used to, but it’s a refreshing idea nevertheless.
What the player awaits are procedurally-generated dungeons and events, eight customizable player classes, four difficulty modes and optional permadeath. Deciding who’s the ally and foe also changes the story of which there isn’t much to be gathered from press info or trailer, so hopefully it keeps one’s motivation going with a few memorable characters. I’m not completely sold on the game yet due to the narrative and setting, but it looks and sounds interesting to keep an eye on.
The game is now available on PC with a 25% discount that will last until May 30, 4PM UTC.
