Epic space shooters make way for roguelikes, but they’re no less impressive thanks to ROCKFISH Games‘ EVERSPACE.
It’s amazing how far indie games have come in terms of presentation, even surpassing classic space sims like Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, although it might be a bit unfair to compare these, considering that the game is over two decades old. Still, what’s on show here is a stunning spectacle of explosions in frantic dogfights with courtesy of the Unreal Engine 4.
Of course there’s still a story behind all the blasting, as the player tries to piece together his existence. It might sound like high sci-fi, but meeting new characters and facing challenges in order to unlock more and more of the story sounds intriguing. Gameplay is a mix of crafting and leveling up in a procedurally-generated world while completing objectives, and each run should be different as well. With the addition of VR and simply great graphics and sounds, this is a title to get excited about for those who may have found the release of No Man’s Sky lacking in content.
The game is now available for PC after having finished the Kickstarter and Early Access phase. It’s also playable on Xbox One and will receive a PS4 port later this year.
