GOG releases: “Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition” + “Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition”

Before continuing some overviews of past events, let’s not forget about current ones, even if they’re classic RPG games like Bethesda‘s Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and Obsidian Entertainment‘s Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition that are now available DRM-free on GOG.

I have to admit that I’m one of the few who haven’t played Fallout 3 (or the first games for that matter). It’s probably because the sheer size of the game world intimidated me, although I’ve always been intrigued by the post-apocalyptic storytelling with a twisted sense of humor that dismantles 50ies paranoia and self-preservation American society. It seems that people who’ve experienced the original titles were a bit disappointed with the more console-centric action approach and the linear storyline, but with so many quests to do, characters to meet and decisions to make, it might be the easiest entry to the franchise, as there’s more RPG in here than in Fallout 4.

The GOG version includes the DLCs Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta and has a 50% discount that will last until June 6, 1PM UTC.

Despite being published by Bethesda, Fallout: New Vegas is still Obsidian’s child and apparently the better experience, as far as long-time fans of the series say. I haven’t played it yet, so I’d take this assumption with a grain of salt. What I do know is that the RPG had a troubled start with lots of bugs that are now fixed. So as with every game, waiting for the final version, in this case the Ultimate Edition, pays off in the end. It all takes place in a decrepit post-nuclear Las Vegas with turf wars going on and all kinds of eccentric characters to please or maybe not, a crazy proposition with lots of quests to do.

The GOG version includes all DLCs, Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road, with add-on packs Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners Arsenal. It’s also 50% off until June 6, 1PM UTC.
