GOG releases: “15 SNK NEO-GEO classics”

How can one top the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game of the Year Edition, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition? GOG does it with adding 15 SNK NEO-GEO arcade games to its DRM-free library.

With the sheer amount of content, GOG already packed the games into three bundles. The Metal Slug bundle includes shooters Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug 3, and Metal Slug X.

The Fighting classics bundle comprises The King of Fighters 2000, The King of Fighters 2002, Fatal Fury Special, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown V Special, and The Last Blade.

The Arcade games bundle has Blazing Star, Baseball Stars 2, King of the Monsters, Shock Troopers, and Twinkle Star Sprites. The games can be bought separately with a 50% discount or in these compilations with 75% off, but only until 6th June, 15:00 CEST.

I’m not familiar with all titles, but I’ll try my best to give a quick rundown of what to expect. Side-scrolling action with lots of insane weapons and enemies on screen is what the Metal Slug series is all about. One-on-one fighting action with amazing sprite art can be found in the The King of Fighters series, while the rest of the Fighting classics bundle follows the same template. The Arcade games bundle offers colorful and often cute graphics with some quirky gameplay ideas, so the Japanese touch is felt everywhere. Of course arcade conversions can never convey the same feeling as the original versions, but for such small prices to pay and a wide selection of games with fun co-op multiplayer to choose from, there’s no better chance to dig into the glory past than now.
