The DRM-free digital service GOG is on a roll with RPGs, with Capcom’s open-world action-RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen following in the footsteps of former additions Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition as well as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game of the Year Edition.
I’ve always been a big fan of Capcom titles. Despite ridiculous storylines and Japanese silliness, most of them were pure and crazy fun, so it’s great to see another title of the company’s games catalogue added to the GOG library of which there are simply too few. Let’s hope more will follow in the near future, but Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is definitely a great AAA start.
The original game was already released on consoles in 2013, with a PC port arriving in 2016 that was based on the Dark Arisen version which brought all kinds of tweaks with it. It includes all previously released DLCs, pre-order bonuses, retailer-exclusives, and the Dark Arisen expansion content, i.e. more weapons and upgrades among other things. Even if the game can look a bit dated, 4K resolution support and other PC-specific graphics gimmicks makes it still a joy to behold. If you’re wondering what the title is actually all about, imagine a punishing Dark Souls action-RPG inspiration but with an interesting co-op gameplay idea. This doesn’t mean one can play together in a party with other humans, but the A.I. team-mates learn from the player’s skill trees and aren’t cannon fodder like in many other games. It’s even possible to upload them online for other users to transfer into their games.
The game is now available on GOG with a 60% discount that will last until June 20, 1PM UTC. It comes with full GOG Galaxy support including Cloud saves, leaderboards, and achievements.
