The GOG Adventurous Summer Sale 2017 didn’t only offer Fantasy General as a limited time-only freebie or still has Rebel Galaxy as a giveaway, because Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is another bonus game one can get for free.
The news is already a few days old, but I wanted to wait writing about it, so that this post follows the review of Alan Wake in order to promote this sort-of sequel DLC. To get an idea of what it’s all about, check out the review of the Xbox 360 version. Of course I’ve been playing the PC one as well and I can safely say that it looks even better thanks to higher resolutions and smoother gameplay thanks to the better use of modern CPUs. It’s still a very cool action-adventure with real-life actors in cutscenes that offers a different setting and more interesting open-world ideas, although the story and characters aren’t on par with the original.
If you want to give this a go, the only thing you have to do is spending a total of $10 in the current GOG sale. Of course you can still buy the game separately with an 80% discount and you don’t even need to own the original to play it. Story-wise it can become a bit tricky, but as the developers don’t really see this as canon for the Alan Wake universe, it’s possible to understand what’s going on in this episode. Either way, make sure you buy the game before the sale ends on Tuesday, June 20, 10 PM UTC.
