June 2017 was quite an interesting month with more games but also a few movies and TV shows covered.
Continuing the video streaming service watchlist tradition started the month before, June saw Netflix on trial. It succeeded and surpassed Amazon Prime, making it the platform I chose with some excellent TV shows and cool movies I also gave appropriate scores for:
Netflix watchlist: April to May 2017
A new feature that will hopefully become a monthly special covered my growing collection of physical media in various forms:
New additions to the media collection in May 2016
Speaking of buying, sales were another topic, this time just revolving around DRM-free platform GOG:
GOG Adventurous Summer Sale 2017
Dungeon Keeper 20th anniversary + GOG special sale
GOG Adventurous Summer update: free game “Alan Wake’s American Nightmare”
GOG Adventurous Summer Sale 2017 update: free game “Fantasy General” + adventurer quiz
GOG Weekly Sale Vol. 20 with free games “Double Dragon Trilogy”
Celebrating Dungeon Keeper‘s 20th anniversary was great, but as always, gaming isn’t without its controversies, as the close-down of the DotEmu online store was another nail in the coffin of digital distribution:
DotEmu online store closed down, but DotEmu lives on
Of course the wave of new releases was relentless with remakes of classic games as well as more original concepts with great-looking visuals at times:
Brigador: Up-Armored Edition
de Blob 2
Lock’s Quest
The Long Journey Home
Nex Machina
Perception
Planescape: Torment – Enhanced Edition
Rain World
RiME
Serious Sam’s Bogus Detour
The Sexy Brutale
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap
Yooka-Laylee
Classic games always have a home on GOG which had quite a few more recent and pretty big titles added to its library:
GOG release: “Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen”
GOG release: “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game of the Year Edition” + Bethesda RPG sale
GOG releases: “Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition” + “Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition”
GOG releases: “Homeworld: Emergence” + “Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak”
GOG releases: “15 SNK NEO-GEO classics”
GOG release: “War for the Overworld”
Last but not least, there was only one review last month (not counting the sort-of GOG Adventurous Summer update: free game “Alan Wake’s American Nightmare” PC version covered and the Xbox 360 version review updated with a GOG link). This game had also some controversy the month before due to it being removed from digital platforms, but it still remains as a unique title that has to be played:
In general, it was quite a busy month and despite trying to juggle work and private life with blogging time, I managed to stay with the daily writing. It was stressful at times, but finding topics and still having fun writing wasn’t a problem. I planned to do more reviews, but it wasn’t possible. So again maybe next month will be different in this regard. I’ve certainly played quite a few review copies, so these articles will shape up quite nicely, although recent real life events can make it a difficult task to promise anything at the moment. Fingers crossed things will turn out fine in both the digital and real world…
