Arrowhead Game Studios‘ fantasy slash-em-up Gauntlet: Slayer Edition finds its way to GOG DRM-free shores.
Another Warner Bros. catalogue title has been added to the DRM-free roster of the Polish company, and this time it’s the remake of a classic multiplayer game that I remember having played on a friend’s good old C64 back in the days. Choosing between four classical heroes, the Warrior, Valkyrie, Elf, and Wizard, the gameplay revolves around killing hundreds of enemies and finding exits to levels, which is especially fun in local 4-player-co-op play. However, it’s also a competitive game, because one tries to get as much loot and food as possible to buy weapons and stay alive.
The new version retains all the fun of the original while updating the graphics and sounds which are quite nice to look at and listen to. Randomized levels, epic boss battles, so many enemies on screen, total chaos with magic spells and lots of gore should be enough to provide nostalgic fun and introduce new players to this long-running series.
Gauntlet: Slayer Edition and the Lilith the Necromancer Pack (which gives access to a 5th adventurer) have been available on Steam for a while, but they’re now on GOG with a 75% launch discount that will last until September 11, 1PM UTC.
