Realmforge Studios‘ humorous fantasy building RTS Dungeons 3 is almost ready for release, and pre-ordering is made even sweeter with a free copy of Dungeons 2.
I’ve already covered Dungeons 2: A Game of Winter when it was released and Dungeon 2 when it was shortly available for free on Humble Bundle, so I won’t go into detail with any of these titles. I’ve also had a hands-on experience with Dungeons 3 in the Public Area, Hall 8 at Gamescom 2017, and as it turns out my first impression was spot-on with what to expect with the imminent release.
The main gameplay remains the same: mining for gold, building sleeping, training, food, and other rooms to accommodate creatures and then sending them against the enemies, which in this case are heroes, in the underground and overworld, which look remarkably like the classic Warcraft III worlds. The only thing that has changed is that there are bigger dungeons and creatures. The meat of the game is a 20 missions single-player campaign that also features the sarcastically evil commentary that made the original Bullfrog titles so memorable. The online co-op mode should be even greater fun. Randomly generated levels are a first for the series, although I’d personally go for the standard story levels, to be honest. All in all, the formula has largely remained the same as well as the graphics and sound effects, so it’s really just a continuation of the story with similar chaotic RTS gameplay.
The game will release on October 13, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Pre-ordering it now means 15% off the original price, the addition of the exclusive Throne Room DLC, the soundtrack and access to the game’s beta as well as a free copy of Dungeons 2.
