Reikon Games’ cyberpunk action-shooter RUINER shows that the future isn’t so bright, but rather bloody.
Devolver Digital‘s output as a publisher has been amazing, with Hotline Miami being maybe the most prominent example of twin-stick violent action. Comparisons to this game can’t be denied, but RUINER creates a different atmosphere with a story about a psychopath who goes against a corrupt system in the cyber metropolis Rengkok of 2091 in order to find his kidnapped brother.
Bathed in neon lights and blood, this is a title that embraces the Blade Runner-like aesthetics with a more violent approach. Quick reflexes are required to mow down enemies with various tools of destruction, while slowing down time is also possible. Fire arms and melee weapons can be used in addition to body augmentations to keep the upper hand during intense fights. Hardcore difficulty but an engaging story are complemented by some great graphics and a cool soundtrack, so this could be a winner.
For a first game, it looks more than impressive, but due to the fact that the team consists of people who worked on the The Witcher series, Dying Light, This War of Mine, Shadow Warrior or Cyberpunk 2077 (the last title I’m eagerly waiting to be released), this is no surprise. So grab this game (and maybe the soundtrack as well) that is now available on PC to support the people to make more titles like this one.
