GOG brings winter joy to adventure gamers with a limited time offer that enables them to add the first two Syberia titles to their library for free, while the digital platform also gives the third Microïds and Benoît Sokal title the exclusive DRM-free treatment.
As these are limited offers, I’ll just keep it short. Everyone can download Syberia for free until tomorrow, November 11, 6PM UTC. If you also own Syberia II on Steam, you can unlock both games via GOG Connect until November 13, 11PM UTC. As the cold winter season is already here, it’s the perfect time to revisit these classic point-and-clickers about the American lawyer Kate Walker who goes on an epic journey in order to follow an automaton inventor and his dream of mammoths. I already reviewed both games last year (see the individual articles for the original and the the sequel) and despite some gameplay issues, they’re still wonderful titles to get lost in even after all these years.
Time and especially critics haven’t been kind to Syberia 3, but I’d still like to see how Kate’s quest for saving the nomadic Youkol tribe turns out, as I already mentioned in this news article. While it took a while for the DRM-free version to show up, the wait you should be worth it, because many performance issues and bugs have been ironed out. Even more interesting is the inclusion of An Automaton with a Plan, a DLC that was recently released and that makes Oscar, Kate’s trusty side-kick automaton, playable for the first time in the series. This seems to be a rather short experience, but as it’s free compared to the Steam version, this should be reason enough to give it a go. It’s also worth pointing out that the GOG version comes with the soundtrack and a wallpaper, both only available in the Deluxe upgrade on Steam. However, it says “soundtracks” on the Steam page, so maybe there are more tracks. The digital 20 first pages of the next comic books are also missing, so it might not be the same edition. Still, having the music to listen to without paying something extra is a nice bonus.
Syberia 3 launches with a 57% discount that will also last until November 13, 11PM UTC, so if you’re interested in the complete story, now’s the time to experience it DRM-free.
