It’s that wonderful time of the year again when it’s cold outside and gaming next to a cosy fire with hot chocolate is the next best thing, so what better way to add more games and heading over to GOG, grabbing the fantastic adventure game Grim Fandango: Remastered for free in addition to some other titles you might have in your Steam library while having a look at the Winter Sale with more offers.
As always, the free offer is available only for a short time, until tomorrow, Dec. 14, 2 PM UTC, so be quick to claim your free code of Grim Fandango: Remastered before it expires. As I already reviewed the game, I won’t go into detail how amazing this last LucasArts adventure title is, so make sure to read the article. Suffice it to say that there hasn’t been something similar since in any medium, with a great mix of Mexican folklore and film noire elements, putting the player into the role of Manny Calavera who finds himself on an epic journey in the land of the dead to save his love and others from being deprived of their tickets to the next life. An unparalleled art deco style, memorable characters, some good puzzles, and a great soundtrack should be enough reason even for people who generally don’t like point-and-click adventure games to give this a go.
If you have some of the following titles on Steam, then you’ll be happy to hear that you can simply add them to your GOG DRM-free library using GOG Connect:
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition
Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game
For The Glory: A Europa Universalis Game
Homeworld Remastered Collection
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire
The Final Station
Zombie Night Terror
This offer is available throughout the Winter Sale that lasts until December 26, 2017 11pm UTC.
The Winter Sale has so many deals that it would take too much time to list them all. So let’s first talk about what’s special with this sale: unlocking more free games, mainly turn-based Western strategy title Hard West (I already previewed here) once you’ve spent 15 Dollars and the 2016 edition of Master of Orion (also found in this news article) when spending 40 Dollars. There is also the stars system, which works just like the digital Piñatas during this year’s GOG Piñata Madness sale, i.e. one buys a game for 3 Dollars without knowing what it is. The mystery games are hand-selected by GOG and range from $3.29 up to $20.09. Of course mystery games aren’t for everyone, so if you want to spend your hard-earned cash in games that you know are good, why not try out these titles I hand-selected because I already reviewed them or wrote news articles about:
Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy 1+2+3
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Deus Ex – GOTY Edition
A Hat in Time
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition
This is just a small selection of games, and as the sale will have more daily offers, there might be others worth mentioning, so make sure to pay GOG a visit and browse through the catalogue before the offers expire on December 26, 2017 11pm UTC.
