Three years ago I remembered the original platformer in the Happy Easter with Jazz Jackrabbit special, and last year GOG released Jazz Jackrabbit 1+2: Complete Collections. But this passing of time doesn’t mean anything compared to 20 years since the sequel came out. Being a fast-paced run-and-gunner starring a gun-blazing rabbit, it certainly hasn’t lost any of its charm over the years. That’s why GOG teamed up with Epic and Jazz2Online, one of the oldest fan communities.
The Jazz Jackrabbit 2: Birthday Hullabaloo special commemorates this anniversary for one week, having already started on May 7th 2018. The platformer doesn’t only offer single-player fun, as Jazz2Online also has an online multiplayer server hosting nearly 600 Battle and Capture the Flag levels that have been created over the past 20 years. If you’re curious about the individual levels, check out this website. The server will be running the whole week for anyone interested to join in the shooting-jumping mayhem.
But this isn’t all, because there’s even a free giveaway of physical CDs of Jazz Jackrabbit 2, signed by Arjan Brussee, one of the founding fathers of the game. If you aren’t among the lucky four winners, then there are also free codes of Jazz Jackrabbit: Collection, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection, and Epic Pinball: The Complete Collection (about which I already wrote) for ten people. All you have to do is to share a favorite memory of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 in this forum thread or create something inspired by the sequel or its community and link it to the same thread. This could be a story, a poem, a drawing, a sculpture, a level, a tileset or anything else creative. The deadline for submission is Monday, May 14th, 2018.
Of course GOG also offers something to celebrate these 20 years, with Jazz Jackrabbit Collection and Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Collection being for sale with a 25% discount that will last until Monday, May 14, 10 PM UTC.
