Saber Interactive and Big Deez Productions together with Mad Dog Games bring back one of the worst games in history but as a good game with beat-em-up brawler Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.
Basketball star Shaquille O’Neil returns to kick some celebrity ass with his Wu Xing moves, and that’s enough to pique one’s interest after forgetting that the original 1994 console game was pretty bad. Again it’s time to master combo attacks with Katanas, shuriken, baseball bats and other weapons, while it’s also possible to turn into powerful forms like the Big Diesel and Shaqtus. If this all sounds rather ridiculous, it’s because it is.
With a rap soundtrack featuring a new track by the real Shaq and over-the-top voice acting, combined with a great comic art style, hopefully the gameplay won’t be as bad as the original, but it seems it’s anything but. It might not be as refined as some Sega classics like Streets of Rage and the humor might be a bit too much for some, but it’s commendable that everything is presented with a less serious attitude.
The game is out now on PC as well as on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It should also be noted that those who purchased the game NBA Playgrounds before July 10 2017 will receive a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn. The key can be redeemed between June 5 and July 5 in the Nintendo eShop. Furthermore, the retail versions of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn include a bonus game (the name of which hasn’t been revealed yet) that can be unlocked later on.
