Luminous and Iceberg Interactive‘s accessible fantasy RTS Circle Empires fights its way to GOG’s DRM-free country.
The simple concept of this game is that factions and kingdoms are represented as circled islands and each one tries to take over its neighbor’s territory to expand. So anyone expecting an epic storyline in the vein of Blizzard’s Warcraft series will be disappointed, but it’s to be expected, considering that the levels or worlds are procedurally generated. However, it doesn’t mean that one fight is enough to complete the game, as there’s still a tremendous amount of things to see and do.
With each fight, units accumulate experience points and level up, and each victory means that one’s treasury grows bigger so that one can buy more buildings and unlock more units. If one gets tired with one faction, there are 17 more to choose from with their unique bonuses to boot. More than 150 creatures, buildings, and resources and even 12 enemy boss monsters sound as if variety isn’t a problem in this game. From the cute cartoon looks of it and the lack of blood and guts one has become used to, the game could also be a mobile game, but as not everyone has the time to play through missions that take more than a few hours, the fast-paced gameplay seems to be a good selling point. As so many battles with hundreds of units take place at the same time, the sense of epic scale and high tension the genre is known for is still preserved.
The game was already released in August 2018 on Steam and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 10% launch discount that will last until October 3rd, 1pm UTC.
