Tate Multimedia‘s 2.5 arcade action game Steel Rats unleashes futuristic and explosive bike mayhem.
The basic storyline and premise is as crazy as it’s ingenious. In an alternate version of 1940’s USA, Coastal City is invaded by alien robots called Junkbots, and the only people who can save it are the Steel Rats, a group of bikers who use their vehicles in all sorts of creative and destructive ways.
It’s not only the bonkers storyline that is refreshingly different from other arcade action titles, but also the gameplay that is a mix of stunt racing and platforming with vehicular combat. It’s all spectacularly silly, with the bikers driving their vehicles up walls, on ceilings, firing harpoon guns, spinning around and damaging enemies with saw blades and flaming exhausts. Those who have played the Trials games will see the obvious references in the realistic handling of the vehicles, but it’s not a time limit but all sorts of machines that stand in the way of completing each level. Choosing between four characters with their unique abilities and weapons also adds to variety in a game that already sticks out of the arcade action crowd with its inventive gameplay.
The game is out now on PC and PS4, the former version with a 15% launch discount that will last until November 21st, 5pm UTC. In addition, there’s not only the soundtrack, but also the Stylish Mayhem Skin pack that can be bought separately.
