Vox Games‘ and Poysky Productions’ Regions Of Ruin brings together 2D side-scrolling RPG gameplay with town-building on GOG.
Anyone familiar with the game Kingdom (see “Kingdom: New Lands” preview) will notice the similarities in Regions of Ruin both in its pixel art presentation and genre mix gameplay. The hero has to find his way through an open world and expand his influence and settlement to neighboring pieces of land. The differences are that one has to rescue and recruits dwarves before they become extinct, and that there aren’t any randomized maps or levels.
The combat system has everything one would expect from an RPG: various stats, skill trees to level up, many quests to complete, and a storyline to follow. It still remains an open-world game, but with a nice mix of town management, strategy, and combat. So one has to take care of resources that have to be harvested by workers and defend settlements with mercenaries or the aforementioned dwarves. If this wasn’t enough, then the DLC Sieges which is already included in the base game offers 7 new siege event areas, 2 new mercenary types for hire, a new building (Training Ground) among other things. Even better: The original soundtrack is also part of the package.
Regions of Ruin was originally released in February 2018, but is now available on GOG with a 90% launch discount that will last until May 27th, 3pm UTC.
