Team D-13‘s roguelike top-down arcade shooter Monolith blasts on the GOG scene.
There’s something cathartic about shooting lots of things on a screen accompanied by beeps and chiptune music, so it doesn’t really matter if there isn’t much of a storyline to be engaged in. Still, Monolith offers an interesting backdrop with an abandoned facility that is explored by a space ship for treasure and links to its past.
Each floor is procedurally generated and challenges the player with smaller but in no way less dangerous enemies and devilish bosses that have to be put to pixel rest by an assortment of 7 different types of weapons with over 40 unique modifiers and therefore a staggering number of combinations. It’s certainly not a game for those without fast reflexes, as the bullet hell one has to go through and all sorts of other dangers in the form of traps keep the player on his or her toes. Sounding and looking like an old-school game, one can expect a pretty good blast from the past.
Originally released in June 2017, Monolith is out now on GOG with a 50% launch discount that will last until July 31st, 1pm UTC.
