Playwood Games, Deck13, and WhisperGames‘s Viking turn-based strategy game Wartile delivers table-top atmosphere on GOG.
Wartile is another GOG addition from the German developer/publisher company after Ankh and Venetica, proving again that it can feel at home with other genres, too. Replacing slapstick humor or high fantasy with a much more realistic setting of Viking history, it’s a much different affair this time, although North mythology means that one will battle more outlandish creatures with one’s group of warriors in order to please the gods.
Presented in a digital diorama, one feels as if playing a table-top game with small, well-crafted figurines. So moving soldiers on tiles is a given, while one doesn’t only have to think about combat strategies and leveling up characters to boost stats, but also to pick which kinds of armor and weapons are used. In addition, there are Ability and Godly cards that can change the outcome of a fight when one brings them to the battlefield. The game comes highly recommended for anyone who’s into boardgaming or Viking stories, as it looks and sounds pretty awesome.
Wartile was originally released in February 2018 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 50% launch discount that will last until tomorrow, August 2nd, 1 PM UTC. The soundtrack DLC can also be unlocked for free until August 8th, 1 PM UTC. Please keep in mind that the special Deck13 promo sale will end tomorrow as well.
