Exordium Games‘s noir adventure game Bear With Me arrives in its The Complete Collection package with lots of talking bear moments.
Using animals as protagonists in adventure games isn’t particularly new, as Detective Gallo already proved, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make for some good laughs or a different sort of atmosphere, especially if it comes to crime stories. Bear With Me obviously features Ted E. Bear as the hero who investigates the disappearance of young girl Amber’s brother Flint in the city of Paper City. It all becomes rather sinister, as a mysterious “Red Man” starts fires around town and Amber also disappears.
The noir story is presented in a hand-drawn cartoon style that is still rather dark and creepy, even if comedy moments can be found. Solving puzzles, interrogating suspects and looking at clues and crime scenes is all part of the bear’s and player’s job, and with a great soundtrack and convincing voice acting, it should be a pleasant experience to roam the streets of Paper city and meeting all sorts of strange animal creatures.
Bear With Me was one of the titles I wasn’t able to play on the second day of Gamescom 2018 in the public areas, the Indie Booth Arena. But the waiting time has been worth it, because The Complete Collection doesn’t only feature all three episodes, but also an exclusive prequel episode. In addition, it includes the official soundtrack, a digital art book, plus puzzle and script design documents. It’s now available on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
