Game release: “Mable and the Wood” (PC)

Triplevision Games‘s and Graffiti Games‘s metroidvania action-platformer Mable and the Wood takes shape-shifting to a new level, including a non-violent approach.

There are lots of metroidvania games in the indie sector, but few offer the player the ability to take the forms of defeated enemies (although there is Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom obviously) and use their abilities to progress. So while it’s not possible to lift a heavy sword in human form, turning into a fairy might be the solution. Even more interesting is the option to finish the game without killing anyone or anything by just using the right abilities and solving puzzles, even being able to get by bosses without violence.

The storyline seems to be familiar, but also quite original, as it’s about a strange cult that has resurrected the heroine so that she hunts down beasts and saves the dying world. However, this prophecy could also mean something different, too. So there could either be a good ending for the world to be saved or the world could be destroyed. With a nice pixel art and fluid movements, the game might not set itself apart from others of its ilk, but the gameplay ideas might do the trick.

The game is out now on PC with a 15% launch discount that will last until September 6th, 4pm UTC.
