Game release: “Minoria” (PC)

Bombservice‘s and DANGEN Entertainment‘s action-platformer Minoria paves its way as the spiritual sequel to the Momodora series.

Japanese games are all a bit messy when it comes to story and their over-reliance on scantily-clad school girls might not be to everyone’s (especially conservatist) taste, but then again the whole pop punk attitude and silliness might be the reasons why one plays them in the first place. So one shouldn’t be surprised to be presented with a story that takes place during the fourth Witch War in which the Sacred Office, a powerful organization leading an Inquisition against heresy, has a good time purging sinners, with witches being the most prominent targets. It doesn’t come any sillier than playing as the Sisters Semilla and Fran who are missionaries, acting in the name of the Church to fight against them and protect the innocent.

Medieval influences aside, what follows is a platformer that tasks the player to use both swords and spells to fight enemies, while trying to doge and parry attacks. Add a leveling system and controls that reward careful play, and one will feel empowered enough to survive. Presented with a beautiful pixel art design that combines hand-painted 2D art with cel-shading, the game becomes a true successor to the Japanese series the developer was originally involved in.

The game is now available on PC with a 10% launch discount that will last until September 3rd, 7am UTC. Buying the game together with the soundtrack means an additional 10% off the original price.
