GOG release: “Assault Spy”

Wazen’s and NIS America‘s sci-fi action-brawler Assault Spy lets Japanese silliness loose on GOG.

Assault Spy is one of those games that cries niche but is all the better for it, at least if one can cope with the ridiculousness of the plot and Japanese pop. Elite corporate spy Asaru and his partner Kanoko have to infiltrate the mega corporation Negabot, which doesn’t mean stealth, but lots of dash, evading, and smashing enemies.

The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, as the combat is as fast as the dialogue lines are spoken. Security robots and terrorists have to be beaten with all sorts of special moves, including the use of a suitcase as a weapon, resulting in many combo and finishing moves. It’s possible to play through the game as Asaru, but also reckless CIA agent Amelia, with each of them offering a unique playstyle and storylines that intertwine with each other. Anyone who likes their action games silly and very Japanese anime-like will definitely dig this title.

Assault Spy was originally released in October 2018 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 50% launch discount that will last until September 11th, 1pm UTC.
