Frozenbyte‘s and Modus Games‘ 2.5D puzzle-platformer Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince brings cooperative gameplay back into the fantasy genre.
This game was one of the highlights during the press appointments at gamescom 2019 because of its beautiful graphics, soundtrack, and fun voice acting. So without going too much into detail with this one, let’s just have a quick overview of the fourth instalment in the series. Taking control of three heroes, Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief, one has to find young Prince Selius who is more than a little troubled in his mind and dreams, as the nightmares come to life and endanger the fantasy world.
Fusing classic fantasy with lots of humor in a wonderful presentation, the backgrounds are obviously the reason to dive into the adventure in the first place. But playing with up to four players in local and online co-op is another reason to give this game a go, with puzzles only being solved together, which is also true for boss fights. Each character has specific skills that have to be put to good use in order to progress. This can be done in single-player as well by switching between the cast, but it’s of course more fun in a team with friends.
The game is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. While there’s no launch discount, one can choose various ways to buy it, either as retail or online versions. The Trine: Ultimate Collection is probably the best option for people new to the series, as it includes all four games.
