Twirlbound‘s and Kongregate‘s open-world action-adventure Pine presents humans in a precarious situation of survival.
Set in the world of Albamere and playing as young Hue, players will experience what it had to feel like when humans were still trying to come to terms with beasts bigger than themselves. Finding a home for one’s tribe and keeping it alive is the ultimate goal, and how this is achieved is all up to the player’s creativity and ingenuity.
Exploration as well as crafting, fighting and also bartering and talking to other species shows that this is a well-realized world that might have a Zelda-like aesthetic, but still feels original. Open-world games aren’t particularly new, but being able to create a world that lives and breathes independently of the player’s actions is the first important step to involve him or her. If one is up to the challenge, one can join forces with other species or fight against them, stealing their food and forcing them to leave their habitat, which might have wider repercussions in the long run.
The game is out now on PC, but it will be released on Switch sometime in the future as well. There’s currently a 10% launch discount that will last until October 17th, 1pm UTC.
