October 2019 offered some gory animated vampire action on Netflix.
TV shows:
Castlevania (Season 2) [6/10]
After having watched the first season of Castlevania in July 2017, expectations weren’t particularly high. Despite having much more action and gore, Season 2 still suffers from too much dialogue for a story that tries to be more sophisticated than the original game series was all about. The less said about the incessant course language, the better. Introducing various characters that have an interesting background story and then simply killing them off is one example why storytelling doesn’t quite work. The whole plot of vampires conspiring against Dracula is probably the reason why the series takes so many episodes for something to develop that doesn’t offer any surprising twists. Only the final episodes deliver on action and plot elements that will hopefully make for an inevitable but more suspenseful third season that doesn’t only rely on bloody death sequences, artful animation and a great soundtrack, but instead moves the audience in any meaningful way with its characters.
Halloween meant watching something horror-related, and even if this TV show was unnecessarily dialogue-heavy, it at least delivered on the gore.
