Game release: “Frostpunk: The Last Autumn” DLC (PC)

11 bit studios‘ survival strategy simulation game Frostpunk has received a bit more warmth and green before the apocalypse thanks to DLC The Last Autumn.

Almost two years ago I wrote about the release of the original Frostpunk and was quite surprised how oppressive the atmosphere of the game was. Living in a time when the weather isn’t what it used to be without snowfall in winter in some regions and too much cold in others, the future might look different, but the way how people will have to adjust to the new climate certainly makes this a training ground for developers. Usually, one would expect a DLC to continue the story of surviving members of society in harsh winter environments, but The Last Autumn does things differently by placing the action in a time before frost took over.

The prequel story deals with society preparing for the inevitable eternal winter and how people have to construct the Generator 113, the only means to build a new form of life for the next generation. This obviously means that time’s running out, mainly 45 days, and one has to be even more careful about how to manage resources and people. Workers going on strikes and toxic gases are some of the new threats, and one has to use any means necessary to make the system of machines and people work, even if it involves manipulation. To set the DLC apart from the base game, it’s not only a change of setting, but new gameplay elements are introduced as well: a new technology tree, 25 new buildings, and new social classes.

The DLC is now available on PC, with the base game having a 60% discount that lasts until January 26, 2020, at 4 PM UTC. Of course there’s also the Season Pass which includes the other DLC, Project TVADGYCGJR, as well, among other things.
