Game release: “The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters” (PC)

Devespresso Games‘, Headup Games‘ and WhisperGames‘ survival horror game The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters shows that the genre is still alive and well in Korea.

Two years ago I wrote a release news of The Coma: Recut and even if similarities to Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut (see my review) are obvious regarding the 2D sidescrolling perspective, creepy atmosphere and adventure elements, this game still offers something different, mainly because of its Korean high-school setting.

Playing as Mina Park, a student of Sehwa High, one wakes up one night in the school only to find out that something very strange has happened to her surroundings. She’s stalked by someone or something that seems to be her teacher, and after going outside her school, even stranger creatures have taken over the familiar districts she used to walk around in. What follows is more or less subtle horror that is reminiscent of all sorts of Asian horror movies, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if the terror is drawn that well and usually kept right outside one’s vision. Gameplay-wise, one has to run away, hide, and solve puzzles, while exploring dangerous surroundings, which includes scavenging resources and crafting items. While gameplay and storytelling might not set the game apart from other genre competitors, the hand-drawn comic strip style certainly does.

The game is out now on PC, but will soon be available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
