Brexit is now a reality, so the story about a country divided by the Wall might not be too far away, and even if the idea to participate in a TV show organized by the government to escape society’s constraints sounds very much like The Running Man, who knows what the future brings? Be it as it may, one plays as a man who tries to reach his family on the other side of The Wall by surviving a dangerous parkours that is broadcast live as “The Wall Show”. Of course, with a regime that has control over it, one can expect all sorts of devious twists and turns along the way, both narratively and gameplay-wise.
Pixel-perfect jumping and fast reflexes are required to progress in the individual arenas, while environmental puzzles and evading enemies is also essential for one’s well-being. So it’s very much like classic platformers, especially Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty (see game release news) which satirize political and social injustices and offer a cinematic presentation. While the graphics are much more pixelated here and the jumping/running behavior of the protagonist seems to be less responsive, there might still be enough sarcastic humor to elevate the game over other indie platformers.
The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until February 6, 2020, at 11 AM UTC.
